Stratovarius成立于1984年，由三个来自芬兰、赫尔辛基的三个年轻人组成，他们分别是鼓手兼主唱Tuomo Lassila，贝斯手John Vihervaauml以及吉他手Staffan Straaringahlman。在他们正式取名为Stratovarius之前这三人以Black Water的名字对外演出。乐队风格：Heavy Metal（重金属）、Power Metal（能量金属）、Scandinavian Metal（斯堪的纳维亚金属）。
